Nestled on a dramatic rocky promontory at the serene northern tip of Mahe, Villa 139 is an exclusive, award-winning villa that redefines barefoot luxury. Surrounded by swaying palms, hidden sandy coves, and the shimmering expanse of the Indian Ocean, this secluded haven offers the perfect escape for discerning travellers.

The villa was designed by the renowned Mauritian architect, Jean Marc Eynaud. Stretching out across 400 square metres, inside the villa is all chic, earthy tones, plush wooden floors and grand, wooden beamed ceilings, while high glass doors slide open on to panoramic views of the quiet surrounding coves, and out across the ocean to Praslin and La Digue islands.

Blending the indulgence of a fully staffed boutique hotel with the intimacy and elegance of a private residence, Villa 139 is thoughtfully designed for effortless relaxation and refined island living. Whether you?re lounging by the infinity pool, exploring the coastline, or enjoying sunset cocktails on the terrace, every moment is framed by breathtaking natural beauty and world-class comfort.

In front of the villa and framing the view of the sea is Villa 139's dramatic centrepiece and focal point: a 60 square metre infinity pool. Surrounded by loungers and giving onto multiple levels of wooden decking, it?s one of those rare places where time can stand still as you lie back and listen to the waves lapping on the rocks.

The villa is surrounded by 1600 square metres of lush, well-maintained tropical gardens. The perimeters are fringed with attractive floral margins and, in places, by fruit-bearing tropical trees such as avocado, bananas, chillies, patole, paw paw, red coconuts, citronelle and lime ? all of which of course, make their way to the dining table.

From the gardens there?s direct access down to the sea via a gentle flight of steps, where you can swim, go kayaking or snorkelling, or even lazily cast a line out to try to catch a fish or two. If even that sounds too much like hard work, you can just sit and watch the fishermen hauling in the catch of the day on their colourful boats or our resident dolphin pod playing in the waves.

The spacious and well-equipped indoor kitchen, and an in-house chef to whip up anything you should fancy, ensures that all your culinary requirements are catered for in style. To complete our cooking and dining offering there?s a gazebo with a lounge, bar, barbecue and a dining area accessed by a walkway carved through dramatic granite outcrops straight from the Jurassic era.

Things To Do

  • Villa?s range of amenities extends from fishing rods for casting off the rocks and snorkelling equipment, to kayaks, paddling boards and, back on dry land, a table tennis table.
  • Also delighted to organise car rentals, fishing and diving trips and other excursions, and can also arrange for in-house yoga sessions and spa treatments on request.
  • Visit Victoria Market for or to give it its more unwieldy official name, Sir Selwyn Clarke Market ? is one of the main Mahe tourist attractions and a great place to head for an authentic local experience.
  • The island?s Botanical Gardens make for a lovely, shady spot to while away an hour or so on a hot afternoon. Located in the capital, Victoria, they?re home to some of the island?s most impressive plant life, including waterlilies and magnificent Coco de Mer trees.
  • Mahe?s golf course is open to visitors (with bookings required on Thursdays and Saturdays) and offers club hire. With only nine holes, while it?s far from a championship course it makes for a lovely day out surrounded by the suitably stunning scenery of a former coconut plantation turned wildlife sanctuary.
  • Morne Seychellois Hiking Train , this trek up Mahe?s highest peak is a must if you?re a keen walker looking for a hard day?s climb.
  • Swimming with Whale Sharks, In terms of where to dive, the south of the island is directly on the migration path from August/September to November, with October being a time when sightings are highest. The south of the island is one of the Seychelles? ? not to mention the world?s ? best places to see these wonderful creatures.
  • Praslin Daytrip at just over an hour?s boat ride away, a day trip from Mahe to Praslin is a great way to explore another part of the archipelago. The second largest of the Seychelles? islands, beaches aside (of which there are obviously no shortage on Mahe) the main attraction is the Vallee de Mai. This national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site is a vast, primal and almost mystically beautiful forest full of giant Coco de Mer palms and the home of the rare Black Parrot. A special place.

Location

  • The villa is located located in the exclusive Glacis region in the lush, northern most tip of the island of Mahe, where Ian Fleming got the inspiration for his book For Your Eyes Only. The area is known for its abundant sandy beaches, coral reefs and tropical vegetation.
  • Situated less than a five minute walk from the beach, Villa 139 looks out over all it surveys from the tip of a small, rocky peninsula. The unobstructed 180-degree views take in two distant islands, a pair of bays situated on either side of the villa, a front landscape of ancient granite boulders descending to the azure waters and a small, secluded cove a short swim away.
